Laser physics:
Study of natural fluctuations of a He-Ne laser.
Development of a He-Ne laser with a supernarrow natural line bandwidth of 0.001 Hz and creation on its basis of a system for measuring ultrasmall oscillatory 10-17m·Hz-1/2 motions of the mirror.
Discovery and investigation of the phenomenon of dynamic self-stabilization in He-Ne/CH4 laser with nonlinear absorption at 3.39 µm wavelength.
Study of resonance dichroism and birefringence in the absorption line (transition P (7) of ν3 band) of methane at 3.39 µm wavelength, induced during propagation of a probe and a counter propagating strong wave in a gas medium.
Fiber optics:
The first experimental observation of birefringence compensation in single-mode optical fibers with Faraday mirror.
Development and creation of fiber optics elements based on polarization maintaining fibers.
Study of the mechanism of parasitic effects reducing the sensitivity to rotation in fiber-optic ring interferometers – fiber gyro transducers based on the Sagnac effect.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging of biotissues:
Development of the physical foundations of the fiber-optic methods of endoscopic coherence tomography for early diagnosis of neoplasms in surface biotissue layers.
Development of the principles of cross-polarization optical coherence tomography. Development of a series of devices for clinical applications of endoscopic optical coherence tomography.
International collaboration:
Participated in 7 international experimental campaigns, including the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL, USA, 1995,1996, 1998, 2000, 2003), UTMB of Texas University (Galveston, TX, USA 1996, 2003), Athens General State Hospital (Athens, Greece, 1996, 1997, 1998).
Collaborates with Imalux Corporation in transferring the Optical Coherence Tomography technology directed towards OCT commercialization, which received FDA clearance in the United States (2000 - present).
